Following an incident in Free Practice 3 on Saturday Morning, Esteban was unable to take part in Qualifying - relegating him to starting from the back of the grid for the maiden Miami Grand Prix.
Esteban drove a long and patient opening stint on Hard compound tyres - relying in hope of a late Safety Car. This strategy paid off, as a late collision between Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris on lap 40, triggered a Safety Car period where Esteban was able to benefit from to pit for fresh tyres without impacting track position.
The Frenchman again had to show patience in the closing stages and with Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel colliding late on, allowing Esteban to vault up to ninth at the chequered flag, just behind teammate Fernando Alonso.
Cette place s'est rapidement transformée en P8, car Fernando a reçu une pénalité après la course, complétant ainsi un effort fantastique d'Esteban qui a gagné douze positions pendant le Grand Prix de Miami.

"Quelle course ! Un grand merci à l'équipe pour tout le travail accompli pendant la nuit pour remettre en état ce qui était une voiture assez cassée après le gros shunt des essais samedi. Ils sont les vraies stars ce week-end.
Pour moi, c'est génial de repartir avec des points après être parti du fond de la grille et je pars vraiment heureux après une journée si difficile hier. La voiture et la stratégie étaient excellentes, c'était une course bien gérée et nous terminons en beauté un premier week-end de course exaltant à Miami.
Maintenant, nous devons continuer sur cette lancée avant de retourner en Europe pour le prochain tour."
The European leg of the season now starts, as Formula One heads to the Circuit de Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix in a fortnights time.
